Flood Insurance Training

All New York Producers authorized to sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour course approved for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training. Life/Health and Property/Casualty (combined license) Producers

Nonresident CE Requirements

Nonresident Pubic Adjusters must complete the New York Public Adjuster CE requirements. (See "Public Adjusters" section above.)

License Term

  • The license term for Producers is every 2 years, based on the licensee’s date of birth in odd- or even-numbered years. Licensees born in an even-numbered year are required to complete their CE in even-numbered years. Licensees born in an odd-numbered year are required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years.
  • Public Adjuster's license term ends on 12/31 of even-numbered years.

CE Subject Requirements

Category restrictions:
  • Producers and Adjusters must complete their CE requirement by taking courses approved only in the line of authority licensed for.
  • Combination licensed producers must complete 15 hours for each line licensed.

Course presentation: 
Producers and Adjusters may complete the New York CE requirements through self-study. The self-study course and exam can be either paper or online.

Study requirements:
Students should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

Exam proctor requirements:
Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a state-approved monitor. A list of CE monitors approved by New York can be found here.

New York State Monitor Approval Documents:
Upon renewal of the monitor approval every 2 years (November 30th of every odd year), renewing monitors will not need to send monitor approval documents to WebCE. WebCE receives the renewed information directly from the state. For monitors that are newly approved during the approval term, the monitor approval information will need to be faxed into WebCE before the student can take the final exam. Monitors not of file with WebCE will not be allowed to proctor a WebCE exam.

Exam rules:
The final exam is closed book, and no outside information may be used to complete the exam. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

Excess CE hours are not allowed to be carried forward to the next 2-year license term.

Course Repetition Rules

A licensee cannot ever repeat a course for credit.

Certificate of Completion

WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in New York. Certificates of completion will be available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. The licensee must keep a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her files for 5 years.

CE Completion Reporting

Next-day Reporting- WebCE reports course completions to the New York Department of Financial Services every business day.

License Renewal Process

Licensees can renew their license online here. Licensees must enter course completion information, found on the certificate of completion, onto the license renewal application.

CE Exemptions

The following individuals are exempt from CE requirements:

  • Licensees who hold an independent adjuster license
  • Licensees who hold a bail bond license
  • Licensees who hold a mortgage guarantee license
  • Licensees who hold a viatical settlement license
  • Licensees currently on active military duty
  • Non-resident producers in good standing with their home state.
