Required Continuing Education Hours

Life and Health Producers

*Effective with Producers who renew on or after June 30, 2014: 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of Ethics, are required every 2 year license term (see license term below).

  • Producers who last renewed in 2011 will be required to obtain 20 hours before they renew in 2013.   
  • The conversion to birth month renewals began with producers renewing in May 2012.  As of May 2012, when license renewals and reinstatements were processed, the new license renewal date was set to the last day of the birth month.  This process should be completed by the end of May 2015.

Producers planning to sell the following products have special training or education requirements as described below:

Special Training/Education Requirements

Annuity Training Requirement

Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Indiana, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours.  (Go to the course catalog to order WebCE's 4-Hour Annuity Training Course, which fulfills this requirement.)

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before marketing, selling, or soliciting any LTC products, a producer must initially complete an 8-hour basic LTC continuing education course specifically approved for LTC. The 8 hours may be counted as part of the required CE credits for the compliance period in which they were completed. (Go to the course catalog to order one of WebCE’s LTC approved courses, which fulfill this requirement.)
  • Ongoing 5-hour LTC training requirement: Producers satisfying the initial 8-hour requirement must complete a minimum of 5 hours of LTC insurance courses every 2 years.
  • Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP)Long-Term Care Partnership program requirement: Producers who will sell LTC policies under the Indiana Long-Term Care Partnership (ILTCP) program must satisfy a one-time 7-hour training requirement in addition to the initial 8-hour LTC training requirement, for a total of 15 hours. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

Property and Casualty Producers

24 CE hours are required every 2 year license term (see license term below).

* There is NOT an Ethics requirement for Property and Casualty Producers.

  • Producers who last renewed in 2010 and 2011 will be required to obtain 20 hours before they renew in either 2012 or 2013.
  • The conversion to birth month renewals began with producers renewing in May 2012. As of May 2012, when license renewals and reinstatements were processed, the new license renewal date was set to the last day of the birth month. This process should be completed by the end of May 2015.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Flood Insurance

All Indiana property and casualty producers who sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour training class on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).(Go to the course catalog to order WebCE’s Flood Insurance Fundamentals: NFIP Training for Insurance Producers course, which fulfills this requirement.)

Limited Lines Producers

Licenses issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2012 will no longer be required to complete CE. 

Adjusters

24 CE hours are required every 2 year license term (see license term below). 

* There is NOT an Ethics requirement for Adjusters.

Roster Fees

A roster fee of $4.00 per course is required to process course completion hours in Indiana and will be added to the order total upon checkout.

Nonresident CE Requirements

Nonresident producers planning to sell the following products have special training or education requirements as described below:

Annuity Training Requirement

Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Indiana, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours.  *Nonresidents who satisfy the annuity training requirements in another state with substantially similar annuity requirements, will be deemed compliant.  (Go to the course catalog to order WebCE's 4-Hour Annuity Training Course, which fulfills this requirement.)

Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP)

  • Long-Term Care Partnership program requirement: Producers who will sell LTC policies under the Indiana Long-Term Care Partnership (ILTCP) program must satisfy a one-time 7-hour training requirement in addition to the initial 8-hour LTC training requirement, for a total of 15 hours. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

Nonresident adjusters who satisfy the adjuster requirement in their resident state will be deemed compliant for the Indiana adjuster requirement.  If their resident state does not have an adjuster requirement,  then they must complete 24 hours of approved Indiana CE .

License Term

Producers:  The license term is the last day of the birth month every 2 years.

As of May 2012, when license renewals and reinstatements were processed, the new license renewal date was set to the last day of the birth month every 2 years. This process should be completed by the end of May 2015.

Adjusters:  The license term is the last day of the adjuster's birth month, every 2 years.

CE Subject Requirements

Category restrictions:
There are no restrictions, however; it would be preferred to take courses for license type.

Course presentation:
Self Study or Classroom.

Study requirements:
Students must read through every chapter of the course material for each course before attempting the final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

Exam Proctor requirements:
Self-study final exams must be proctored by an Indiana insurance licensee.

Exam rules:
The final exam is closed book and must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher. Students have unlimited retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

Excess hours accumulated during any renewal period may not be carried over to the next renewal.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within a 2 year licensing term. This includes Indiana-specific LTC courses.

Certificate of Completion

WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Indiana. Certificate of completion will be available to print online immediately after a final exam is passed. Producers must retain copies of each certificate of completion in their files for at least 4 years.

CE Completion Reporting

Instant Reporting - Insurance CE credits are immediately reported to Sircon upon course completion.

License Renewal Process

Resident Producer Renewals:  Renewal notices will be sent electronically to the email address on file through Sircon.  The electronic notice will be sent approximately 60 days prior to the renewal date. To avoid late fees, license renewals must be completed electronically before the license expiration date.  To renew online, click here.

Non-Resident Producer Renewals:  To avoid late fees, license renewals must be completed electronically before the license expiration date.  To complete the online renewal process go to click here and click on "Create An Account".  You may also print your license from ProducerEDGE. 

CE Exemptions

  • Nonresident producers are exempt if home state CE requirements are met and a PDB printout indicating resident compliance is submitted to IDOI.
  • Nonresident producers are exempt from the regular long-term care requirement (but not from the Indiana Partnership Long-Term Care Program requirement).
