Life and Health Producers

Producers who have completed their first full renewal period after June 30, 2014 are required to complete: 24-hours of insurance CE, including 3-hours of ethics are required every 2-year license term.

  • Producers who last renewed in 2011 will be required to obtain 20 hours before they renew in 2013.
  • The conversion to birth month renewals began with producers renewing in May 2012. As of May 2012, when license renewals and reinstatement's were processed, the new license renewal date was set to the last day of the birth month. This process should be completed by the end of May 2015.

Property and Casualty Producers

24-hours of insurance CE are required every 2 year license term.

* There is not an Ethics requirement for Property and Casualty Producers.

  • Producers who last renewed in 2010 and 2011 will be required to obtain 20 hours before they renew in either 2012 or 2013.
  • The conversion to birth month renewals began with producers renewing in May 2012. As of May 2012, when license renewals and reinstatements were processed, the new license renewal date was set to the last day of the birth month. This process should be completed by the end of May 2015.

Adjusters

24-hours of insurance CE are required every 2-year license term.

* There is not an Ethics requirement for Adjusters.

Limited Lines Producers

Licenses issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2012 will no longer be required to complete CE.

Insurance License Renewal

License Term

Producers: The license term is the last day of the birth month every 2 years.

  • The conversion to birth month renewals began with producers renewing in May 2012. As of May 2012, when license renewals and reinstatements were processed, the new license renewal date was set to the last day of the birth month every 2 years. This process should be completed by the end of May 2015.

Adjusters: The license term is the last day of the adjuster's birth month, every 2 years.

License Renewal Process

Resident Producer Renewals: Renewal notices will be sent electronically to the email address on file through Sircon. The electronic notice will be sent approximately 60 days prior to the renewal date. To avoid late fees, license renewals must be completed electronically before the license expiration date.

Non-Resident Producer Renewals: To avoid late fees, license renewals must be completed electronically before the license expiration date. To complete the online renewal process go to click here and click on "Create An Account". You may also print your license from ProducerEDGE.

State Insurance Product Training Requirements

Annuity Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products.

Initial Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Long-Term Care Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care products.

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products. The 8 hours may be counted as part of the required CE credits for the compliance period in which they were completed.
 
Ongoing Training
Hours: 5
Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 2-year license period, following the initial training requirement.
 
Long-Term Care Partnership Initial Training Requirement
Hours: 7
Frequency: One-time training must be completed prior to selling LTC insurance products. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

Insurance CE Exam Requirements

Exam Rules

The final exam is closed book. Students have unlimited retakes.

Monitor Requirements

Self-study final exams must be proctored by an Indiana insurance licensee.

Repetition and Carryover

Carryover Rules

Excess hours accumulated during any renewal period may not be carried over to the next renewal.

Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within a 2 year licensing term. This includes Indiana-specific LTC courses.

Reporting and Insurance CE Certificates of Completion

Certificates of Completion

WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Indiana. Certificate of completion will be available to print online immediately after a final exam is passed. Producers must retain copies of each certificate of completion in their files for at least 4 years.

Self-Study Requirements: Students must read through every chapter of the course material for each course before attempting the final exam.

Category Restrictions

There are no restrictions, however; it would be preferred to take courses for license type.

Non-Resident Insurance CE Requirements

State-Specific Insurance Product Training

Annuity Training

Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Indiana, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours. *Non-residents who satisfy the annuity training requirements in another state with substantially similar annuity requirements, will be deemed compliant.

Long-Term Care Training

Long-Term Care Partnership program requirement: Producers who will sell LTC policies under the Indiana Long-Term Care Partnership (ILTCP) program must satisfy a one-time 7-hour training requirement in addition to the initial 8-hour LTC training requirement, for a total of 15 hours. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

Non-Resident Insurance CE Requirements

Non-resident adjusters who satisfy the adjuster requirement in their resident state will be deemed compliant for the Indiana adjuster requirement. If their resident state, or designated home state, does not have an adjuster requirement, then they must complete 24 hours of approved Indiana CE.

Exemptions from Insurance CE Requirements

Insurance CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Indiana CE requirements:

  • Non-resident producers are exempt if home state CE requirements are met and a PDB printout indicating resident compliance is submitted to IDOI.
  • Non-resident producers are exempt from the regular long-term care requirement (but not from the Indiana Partnership Long-Term Care Program requirement).
