Producers

36 CE hours total, including:
  • Ethics: 3 CE hours

Crop Producers

18 CE hours total, including:
  • Ethics: 3 CE hours

Public Adjusters

24 CE hours total, including:
  • Ethics: 2 CE hours

Are there any subject area requirements for Iowa Insurance CE?

Life & Health Producers

Indexed Product Training: One-time 4 CE hour course prior to providing advice or making any sales presentation concerning an indexed product.

Are there any course approval restrictions for Iowa Insurance CE?

Licensees may take courses in any line of authority.

When does Iowa Insurance CE have to be completed?

The last day of the licensee's birth month, every 3 years.

Can Insurance CE courses be repeated?

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 3 year license term.

What are the Annuity Training requirements for Iowa?

Annuity Best Interest Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training of a 4-Hour Annuity Suitability and Best Interest Standards course must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Residents and non-residents who have completed training including the NAIC Best Interest Standards in another state with laws similar to Iowa law will be deemed compliant with this requirement.

What are the Long-Term Care Training requirements for Iowa?

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products. This training course is required to be in a classroom setting; however, WebCE has received a waiver from the IA Insurance Division stating our 8-hour self-study course may be taken to satisfy this requirement.

Ongoing Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every license period, following the initial training requirement.

Residents and non-residents who satisfy the training requirements of another state with laws similar to Iowa's law will be compliant with the requirement.

Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling flood insurance products.

Can Insurance CE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

Excess CE hours may not be carried over to the next 3-year license term.

What is the Iowa Insurance license renewal process?

  1. A renewal notice will be sent via email (if available) by the state 60 days prior to the producer's expiration date. The notice will state whether the CE requirement has been met and state the renewal fee.
  2. NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. It is recommended that CE be completed at least 1 month in advance of license renewal.
  3. Complete renewal application and submit fees.

What are the WebCE Iowa Insurance CE course requirements?

  • WebCE courses are classified as online self-study or online monitor-free courses.
  • Self-Study Course Presentation:
    • Students should read through the course material for each course before attempting a final exam.
    • Self-study exams are closed-book and require a monitor.
    • Monitor requirements: A disinterested third party minimum age of 18 years who has no family or financial relationship.
    • Exams may be remotely monitored. Please refer to our Virtual Monitoring Guide for more information.
    • Self-study final exam passing score: 70%
  • Monitor-free Courses:
    • Students must take and pass a series of interactive quizzes throughout the course with a minimum score of 70 percent for each interactive quiz.
    • Monitor-free courses do not have final exams.
  • If the final exam or interactive quizzes are not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

What is the access period for WebCE Iowa Insurance CE courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard.

How often does WebCE report Iowa Insurance CE course completions?

Twice every business day to State Based Systems (SBS).

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Iowa Insurance CE courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the course is completed. Licensees must retain a copy of each certificate of completion in their files for 4 years.

What are the Iowa Insurance CE requirements for non-residents?

All non-resident producers are exempt if they live in a state (or district) having a CE requirement for insurance producers, with the exception of the indexed product training requirement.

Are there any CE exemptions?

The following individuals are exempt from CE requirements:

  • Producers who are on extended active duty with the US Armed Forces
  • Individuals licensed for credit insurance or surety insurance only
  • Attorneys licensed to sell insurance may be exempted upon submission of proof of completed CLE. Attorneys who do not have a CE requirement in their home states must comply with the Iowa insurance CE requirements.
