10-hours of insurance CE, including 2-hours of ethics.  At least 5-hours must be completed with classroom equivalent courses.


Insurance License Renewal

License Term

For all licenses issued or renewing on and after September 1, 2015, which formerly required 30 hours of continuing education (CE) during each license period, only 24 hours of continuing education is required for each license period. 

Effective January 1, 2016, producer's license will expire every 2 years on the licensed producers' birth-date. TDI, Texas Department of Insurance, is currently working on a system to align the expiration dates for licenses expiring on and after January 1, 2016.

Self-study insurance continuing education final exams are open-book. Students may refer to the course material as often as needed.

Reporting and Insurance CE Certificates of Completion

Certificates of Completion

WebCE will e-mail insurance CE certificates of completion to the student’s e-mail address on file. WebCE reports CE credits directly to Sircon. Students are required to maintain the original certificates of completion in their files for a minimum of 4 years from date of completion. Certificates must be made available to the Texas Department of Insurance upon request.

Self-study online, paper-book, classroom equivalent, and classroom.

Study Requirements

Self-Study Requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking an open-book, non-monitored final exam.

Classroom Equivalent
: Students must take and pass a series of interactive inquiries or quizzes throughout the course with a minimum score of 70 percent for each interactive quiz.

Category Restrictions

At least 50% of their required CE hours in certified classroom or classroom equivalent courses.

Non-Resident Insurance CE Requirements

State-Specific Insurance Product Training

State product training is required for producers planning to sell Annuities, Long-Term Care, or Medicare-related products.

Non-Resident Insurance CE Requirements

A non-resident producer who becomes a Texas resident between renewals of his or her Texas license is immediately subject to Texas CE requirements and must complete a prorated schedule of CE study. Producers are encouraged to contact the Texas Department of Insurance to determine their CE requirements.
