Learning to analyze your firm through continuing education

An important part of working with clients as a professional is finding opportunities for growth through ethical and compliant means. Understanding how to make meaningful decisions that positively impact your firm will help you better plan for the future of your firm as well as communicate your decision processes with your peers. WebCE created two new courses, Financial Statement Analysis and Hot Topics in Employment Law, to keep you up-to-date on financial analysis and employment law to help you propel your career and prove yourself as the trusted source for information.

Financial Statement Analysis

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ or Certified Public Accountant, you understand the importance of being able to properly analyze your client’s financials to make accurate and informed decisions. Performing a financial checkup for a firm can help them find opportunities for growth that may have otherwise been overlooked. In this course, you’ll learn how to determine the environment in which a firm operates and how to figure out how your client is currently operating. You will be able to predict where a firm is going in the future and how much the firm is actually worth.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to identify common framework for analyzing your firm’s financial statements as well as calculating the appropriate numerical values and ratios to articulate a firm’s financial position and performance. By knowing how to identify financial statement elements used in accurately estimating a firm’s value and making financial projections, you will differentiate yourself as an industry expert.

Hot Topics in Employment Law

In 2018, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) resolved 90,558 charges of discrimination in the workplace. Retaliation made up more than half of the charges filed while discrimination on the basis of sex, disability, and race followed closely behind. Title VII federal law protects against discrimination, harassment, or retaliation based on certain protected categories. As your firm continues to grow, learning to analyze your hiring processes to remain compliant with Title VII can protect your firm’s finances and reputation. WebCE’s course, Hot Topics in Employment Law, examines the key areas covered by Title VII and the effects of the types of harassment and discrimination covered by it.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to recognize the elements and impacts of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Learn the extent to which insurance coverage may be available and what constitutes a retaliation claim to protect your company against Title VII claims. This course is beneficial for CPAs, CFP® Certificants, and insurance professionals to take a deep dive into employment law and Title VII.

By becoming well-versed in areas such as financial statement analysis and employment law, you could make valuable contributions to your firm and advance your career. These topics are more relevant than ever as firms continue to experience personnel and portfolio growth.
