What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for Tennessee?

Tennessee does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, it is recommended to complete an exam prep course before attempting to take your state’s licensing exam.

How to get an insurance license in Tennessee

Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a resident of or have principal place of business in Tennessee

Prepare for state licensing exam
- Use the WebCE Exam Prep courses to better prepare you to pass the state licensing exam.

Register and pass state licensing exam
- Make an exam reservation at www.pearsonvue.com or by calling (800) 274-4957.
- Bring two forms of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, and credit card.)
Before making an exam reservation applicants should thoroughly review the State of Tennessee Licensing Candidate Handbook by clicking on the Student Handbook button above.

Submit fingerprints
- All first-time individual resident producer and adjuster applicants are required to submit fingerprints through L-1 Enrollment Services for a background check. Register online at www.tn.ibtfingerprint.com or by calling (855) 226-2937.

Apply for a License
- After passing your licensing exam and submitting fingerprints, complete the insurance license application online at www.nipr.com.

What are the WebCE Tennessee Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

WebCE insurance exam prep courses follow the state exam content outlines. Students should read each lesson before proceeding to the next lesson.
WebCE suggests students pass the closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Practice exam with a score of 70% or higher and then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

What is the access period for WebCE Tennessee Insurance Exam Prep courses?

90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.

How often does WebCE report Tennessee Insurance Exam Prep course completions?

WebCE does not report exam prep course completions as the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance does not require course completions to be reported.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Tennessee Insurance Exam Prep courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after completing the course. Certificates are for personal records and is not required for the state exam.

What is the process to transfer an insurance license to Tennessee?

New residents currently licensed in former home state and make application to Tennessee within 90 days of cancellation of former home state license can apply for their license at Apply online.

What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in Tennessee?

Nonresident license candidates may obtain a Tennessee agent license, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state.

Are there any Tennessee insurance product specific training requirements?

Before selling, soliciting or negotiating the following products, insurance license holders are required to complete the training outlined below. These training hours can be used toward the total CE hours required to renew the license.

Annuity Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products.

Initial Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Additional Information

Long-Term Care Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care products.

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products.

Ongoing Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: Ongoing training must be complete every license period, following the initial training requirement.

Additional Information

NFIP Flood Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell flood insurance products.

One-Time Training
Hours: 3
Frequency: One-time training must be completed to sell flood insurance products.
