Wisconsin Pre-License Education Requirements

Individual Resident Producer Requirements

To qualify for a resident Wisconsin insurance agent license, the applicant must satisfy the following requirements:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be a resident of the state of Wisconsin
  • Complete an approved prelicensing course of study (see Prelicense requirements below)
  • Pass a written examination and file a license application
  • Submit a set of fingerprints

State Law Handbook

The OCI has developed an Intermediary's Guide to Wisconsin Insurance Law which covers the Wisconsin law portion of the exam. While the WebCE course covers all relevant insurance laws that are covered on the exam, students may wish to obtain a copy of the Guide as an additional study resource. Students may purchase a printed copy by sending a check or money order for $3.00 to: OCI, Agent Licensing Section, P.O. Box 7872, Madison, WI 53707-7872. Alternatively, the Intermediary's Guide to Wisconsin Insurance Law may be downloaded at no charge from the OCI.

PreLicense Education Requirements (PLE)

Applicants must complete Prelicense education (PLE) for each major line of authority (LOA). An applicant who wishes to obtain a Life and Accident & Health license will receive a separate certificate of completion for each LOA.
