PAP: Duties After a Loss and General Provisions -- CLEQ

Course Description
This course outlines the duties of an insured following an accident or loss as well as those of the insurer as delineated in the Insurance Services Office (ISO) standard personal auto policy (PAP) form. It then analyzes the nine broad general provisions of the PAP, including how they affect coverage; examines the ways subrogation can be apportioned; and outlines cancellation procedures.

Upon completion of this course, the student will understand:

  • the five duties required of anyone when seeking coverage under the PAP
  • the “contact requirement” that must be satisfied when seeking uninsured motorists coverage for an incident with a “phantom vehicle”
  • the effects of an insured’s bankruptcy on PAP coverage
  • the three different ways that a subrogation recovery may be apportioned between insurer and insured
  • procedures for canceling a PAP by either the policyholder or the insurer
