PAP: Duties After a Loss and General Provisions -- CLEQ

Overview

To collect for a claim under a personal auto policy (PAP), the insured has certain duties that must be followed. If the insured does not comply and that adversely affects the insurer’s ability to properly handle the claim, the insurer has no duty to cover the loss.

This course outlines the duties of an insured following an accident or loss as well as those of the insurer as delineated in the Insurance Services Office (ISO) standard personal auto policy (PAP) form. It then analyzes the nine broad general provisions of the PAP, including how they affect coverage; examines the ways subrogation can be apportioned; and outlines cancellation procedures.

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • identify an insured’s duties after a loss
  • identify the nine provisions/conditions in the PAP
