Understanding Social Security: Case Studies for Funeral Directors

Overview

When death strikes, it is often the funeral director to whom family members turn for counsel and advice. Occasionally, their requests for advice involve financial matters, such as Social Security benefits. By having a basic understanding of the types of Social Security benefits that are payable to surviving family members, funeral directors can assist their clients as they make many difficult transitions, pre- and post-death.

This course is designed to educate the funeral director on the basics of Social Security and Social Security benefits so that he or she can counsel clients-widows, widowers, children of a deceased parent, relatives of a deceased-on this matter, helping them understand the benefits they may be entitled to and how to claim them. The course offers an introduction to Social Security and Social Security survivor benefits and provides a series of short case studies that apply the information to "real-life" scenarios.
