MLIS Certification Information

How do I obtain the MLIS Certification?

The core curriculum is composed of five basic-to intermediate-level insurance and risk management continuing education courses focused specifically on directors and officers (D&O) liability, employment practices liability (EPL), and fiduciary liability insurance. All five courses must be completed in 5 years from the purchase of the first Core course to earn the MLIS certification.

When does my MLIS Certification expire?

Certification completion date every year.

How do I renew my MLIS Certification?

To maintain the certification, you must complete 6 hours of continuing education annually. There are several ways to obtain renewal credit.

  • Complete an online continuing education course in the IRMI Learning Center. One of these courses is all that is necessary to satisfy your 6-hour continuing education requirement, and most will also qualify for insurance CE or CPA CPE if you need it.
NOTE: You may take any course listed in the Renewal Catalog to fulfill your annual certification continuing education requirement. You are not limited to the “topic”/focus of your certification. Or begin a new IRMI certification and use a Core course to renew your existing designation. Must call to apply Core course credits as renewal.
  • Attend the equivalent of six hours of sessions at an IRMI conference.
  • Attend an insurance or risk management seminar, webinar, conference, or other relevant educational training providing at least 6 hours of credit and contact us at [email protected] to provide proof of attendance and request approval for renewal credit.

What is the access period for online MLIS Certification courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard.

What are the online MLIS Core and Renewal online course requirements?

The online MLIS certification Core and Renewal courses provided by WebCE are classified as online self-study courses.

  • Students should read through every chapter of the course material for each course before attempting a final exam.
  • Core and Renewal course exams are open-book and do not require a monitor.
  • Final exam passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
Adding Insurance CE or CPA CPE credit may alter these general requirements. Refer to Important Information page prior to starting course.

Will I receive a certificate of completion for MLIS Certification courses?

IRMI has partnered with Credly Acclaim, to provide a digital badge for you to share your achievement and provide verification of your specialized knowledge. After earning your credentials, you can display your digital badge on your LinkedIn profile, in your email signature, and on a variety of social media and digital platforms.
