Funeral Directors & Morticians

10 hours of CE is due each 2 year renewal cycle.

Idaho funeral directors and morticians must complete 10 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years, and the deadline is tied to the licensee’s birth date. CE must be completed before a license is renewed.

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 2 year license term.

There are no current credit type limits.

Excess CE credit hours earned in one license term may not be carried forward to the next license term.

The Board mails license renewal application approximately six weeks before the license expiration date. The form must be returned to the Board with the appropriate fee. Licensees will be required to submit proof of CE in the event of an audit.

• WebCE courses are online approved self-study courses with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through the course material then complete the exam.
• Passing score: 70%
• If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

12 months from the original date of purchase

WebCE does not report course completions to the Idaho Board of Morticians.

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Licensees should keep all certificates for a minimum of 3 years for state auditing purposes.

Anyone who holds an active Funeral Director or Mortician license in Idaho must meet all CE requirements even if they do not live in Idaho.

Initial licensees are exempt from CE requirements for their first renewal. The board may allow exemptions for from CE for individual hardship, including health, or other good cause. Board approval is required for exemptions..
