WebCE's Top Selling Tax Courses Cover New Tax Law

Become a Valuable Resource for Information this Tax SeasonOn January 28, 2019, the Internal Revenue Service will begin to process tax refunds to taxpayers as scheduled. Despite the government shutdown, tax refunds will be returned due to a permanent, indefinite appropriation passed by Congress. Although the government shutdown will not affect taxpayer refunds, the IRS has only kept about 44% of its total workforce on hand for the season. As this is the first filing season under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, many could have a difficult time navigating the new tax laws. This coupled with the recent staffing cuts to the IRS means reaching someone for help to answer filing questions could be problematic.

Throughout the 2018 calendar year, tax preparers and educators were asked about such items as allowances and standard deduction, personal exemptions, eligibility for the Child Tax Credit, and the qualified business income deduction. All of these tax codes have either been changed, eliminated, or broadened and it’s important to be able to communicate and apply these updates.

Tax preparers can take advantage of this time to educate themselves further on changes made by the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Understanding of changes to the tax law can make you a valuable resource for information this tax season as you’d be able to help clients in ways others may not be able to – including the IRS.

Among our many tax CE courses, tax preparers can find courses specific to the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, including:
