What are the Insurance Continuing Education requirements for Maryland?

Producers & Public Adjusters

24 CE hours total, including:
  • Ethics: 3 CE hours
    No more than 3 hours of Ethics can be completed in a renewal period.

Are there any course approval restrictions for Maryland Insurance CE?

  • Licensees must take approved courses in the line of authority in which they are licensed in.
  • For multiline Life/Health and Property/Casualty, licensees must complete 6 hours in each line. The remaining hours may be satisfied by either line.
  • Courses approved for Flood credit will not satisfy the minimum 6 hours required for the Property/Casualty line of authority.
  • Public Adjusters may complete courses approved under the Property & Casualty category

When does Maryland Insurance CE have to be completed?

The last day of the licensee's birth month, every 2 years.

Can Insurance CE courses be repeated?

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 2 year license term. If a course is repeated in two consecutive 2-year license terms, there must be at least 6 months between the course completions to receive credit.

What are the Annuity Training requirements for Maryland?

Annuity Best Interest Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training of a 4-Hour Annuity Suitability and Best Interest Standards course must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Residents and non-residents who have completed training including the NAIC Best Interest Standards in another state with laws similar to Maryland law will be deemed compliant with this requirement.

Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTCP products.

Frequency: After completing the initial 8-hour training requirement, LTCP insurance producers must complete 4 hours of LTCP training in every 2-year license term

Non-residents who satisfy the training requirements of another state that are similar to Maryland's law will be deemed compliant for Maryland's requirement..

What are the Flood Training requirements for Maryland?

Frequency: All Property/Casualty and Personal lines producers must complete a 2-hour course on NFIP Flood Insurance Certification Training prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating flood products and then every renewal period thereafter.

Can Insurance CE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

Excess CE hours may not be carried forward to the next 2-year license term.

What is the Maryland Insurance license renewal process?

  1. Electronic renewals will be available 90 days prior to the expiration date and within a grace period of 30 days after the last day of their birth month.
  2. To complete license renewal, Continuing Education requirements must be met prior to submission of a renewal application. Continuing education must be completed 30 days prior to the licensees expiration date.
  3. Complete renewal application and submit fees.

  • WebCE courses are classified as online self-study courses.
  • Students must read through the course material for each course before attempting a final exam.
  • Self-study exams are closed-book and do not require a monitor.
  • Final exam passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

What is the access period for WebCE Maryland Insurance CE courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard.

How often does WebCE report Maryland Insurance CE course completions?

Immediately upon course completion to Sircon.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Maryland Insurance CE courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the course is completed. Licensees must keep each certificate of completion in his or her files for 4 years.

What are the Maryland Insurance CE requirements for non-residents?

Non-resident licensees who meet CE requirements in their home state are not required to meet Maryland CE requirements.

Are there any CE exemptions?

The following individuals are exempt from CE requirements:
  • If prior to October 1, 2008 a resident licensee has been consecutively licensed for 25 or more years their continuing education requirement is 8 hours (of these 8 hours, 3 hours are still required to be in ethics).
  • Limited lines licensees
  • Maryland attorneys who hold a producer license to sell title insurance and are in good standing with the Maryland Court of Appeals.
