What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for Georgia?

Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The prelicensing course must consist of 20 hours per line of authority on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:
  • Life – 20
  • Accident and Sickness – 20
  • Life, Accident & Sickness– 40
  • Variable Products - 8 Hours (must hold Agent Life license)
  • Property – 20
  • Casualty – 20
  • Property and Casualty – 40
  • Personal Lines - 20

How to get an insurance license in Georgia

  1. Meet the general eligibility criteria
    • Be at least 18 years of age
    • Be a resident of Georgia for at least six months every year or have a principal place of business within the state.

  2. Complete required prelicensing education
    • Prepare for the Georgia State Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
    • To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.

  3. Register and pass state licensing exam
    • Make an exam reservation at Pearson Vue.
      When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants will be required to provide the WebCE school code number 159132.
    • Please VERIFY you have created your web account with your LEGAL name as it appears on your government-issued ID and that your personal information is correct.
    • Bring two forms of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, credit card) and a copy of your prelicensing education Certificate of Completion on exam day.
    Before making an exam reservation applicants should thoroughly review the State of Georgia Licensing Candidate Handbook. The Candidate Handbook and additional licensing information can be accessed by clicking on the Student Handbook button above. The GA OCI examination retake rule says candidates who fail an exam will be required to wait 14 days to retest after exam attempts one and two and 60 days after exam attempt three and any subsequent attempts.


  4. Complete the Citizenship Affidavit
    • New license applicants are required to submit a notarized Citizenship Affidavit Form (GID-276-EN) attesting to either United States citizenship or lawful presence. A copy of the required form, along with instructions for completing the form, can be downloaded from the Georgia Insurance Department’s website at https://oci.georgia.gov/citizenship-affidavit.
      The completed and signed form and a copy of the front of one of the secure and verifiable identification documents listed on the form must be submitted with the online license application. This completed affidavit and copy of the identification documents should be uploaded when you apply at NIPR or Sircon.

  5. Apply for a License
    • After passing the examination, apply for your license online at www.sircon.com/georgia or www.nipr.com.
    • Applicants must apply for licensure within 12 months from receiving a passing grade on the examination. For more information regarding obtaining a license go to www.oci.georgia.gov. After 60 days from the date of an application deficiency notice, if the application remains incomplete, the application will be closed and the applicant will forfeit the license application fee. At that time, the applicant will have to re-apply and re-submit the application fee.

  6. Submit fingerprints
    • Complete Fingerprinting Registration - May 1, 2023, New Vendor. Follow the steps to register for your fingerprinting appointment. A registration for an appointment will not be approved until after you have applied for your license.
    • Once the license application has been submitted, visit https://oci.georgia.gov/document/document/background-check-fingerprinting-procedure/download to register.
    • Applicants will receive a registration approval email from GBI. Take your approval message with you to a fingerprint site and they will take your fingerprints.

What are the WebCE Georgia Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

  • Per Georgia PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the pre-license education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
  • Students must pass the closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Course Certification exam with a score of 70% or higher.
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
  • WebCE suggest to then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

What is the access period for WebCE Georgia Insurance Exam Prep courses?

90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Georgia Insurance Exam Prep courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Pre-licensing course certificates are valid for one years from date of completion.

Please note: Candidates who fail the examination three (3) times and had taken a pre-licensing course through an independent provider will be required to retake a pre-licensing course from a different provider prior to retaking the examination.

What is the process to transfer an insurance license to Georgia?

New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will not be required to complete pre-license education or take the license examination as long as the application is received within 90 days of their former home state license being cancelled and the license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state. The license candidates must obtain a Letter of Clearance from their former home state.

What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in Georgia?

Non-resident license candidates may obtain a Georgia agent license, without having to complete the pre-license education requirement or take a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state.
