The essential goal of the claims department is to dispose fairly of all claims made against the company and its insureds. This course trains claims adjusters to fairly settle claims while understanding legal concepts like liability and damages. It uses real-world examples to show how different laws affect claim decisions.

  • distinguish between criminal and civil law and understand the restitution required by each
  • understand and explain the meaning of tort law, and identify the three kinds of torts
  • discuss legal liability imposed by contract and statute as opposed to that imposed by negligence
  • explain the various defenses available to insureds that will bar or limit a claimant's recovery

Important Study Requirements: The Minnesota DOC does not permit agents to access the final exam until the student's time in the course (no more than 8-hours a day) equals the number of approved credit hours. The course must be stopped if the student is inactive for more than 10 minutes.
