What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for New Jersey?

Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The pre-licensing course must consist of 20 hours per line of authority on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:

Life – 20 hours
Accident & Health or Sickness – 20 hours
Property – 20 hours
Casualty – 20 hours
Personal Lines – 20 hours

How to get an insurance license in New Jersey

Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a resident of New Jersey or have principal place of business in New Jersey

Complete required prelicensing education
- Prepare for the New Jersey State Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
- To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
- When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants will be required to present your Certificate of Completion at your licensing exam. After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will be able to download a PDF Certificate of Completion.

Register and pass state licensing exam
- Make an exam reservation at psiexams.com or by calling (800) 733-9267.
- Bring two forms of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, credit card) and your WebCE Certificate of Completion.
Please Note: The NJ Department of Banking and Insurance also requires that the licensing examination be passed within one year before the license application date. Before making an exam reservation applicants should thoroughly review the State of New Jersey Licensing Candidate Handbook by clicking on the Student Handbook button above.

Submit fingerprints
- All first-time individual resident producer and adjuster applicants must be fingerprinted in order to become licensed
- Schedule your fingerprint appointment at https://uenroll.identogo.com or by calling (877) 503-5981. Use Service code: 2F16Y3.

Apply for a License
- After passing your licensing exam, complete the insurance license application online at www.nipr.com.

What are the WebCE New Jersey Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

Per New Jersey PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
Students should pass the closed-book monitored final exam with a score of 70% or higher.
Exam Requirements: Self-Study exams are closed-book and must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party. Monitors must not serve for examinations of family members, relatives, or dependents; employers or supervisors; employees or subordinates; partners, joint ventures, co-owners, or business associates; or for anyone in whom the monitor or instructor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination.
If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
WebCE suggest to then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

What is the access period for WebCE New Jersey Insurance Exam Prep courses?

90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.

How often does WebCE report New Jersey Insurance Exam Prep course completions?

WebCE does not report exam prep course completions as the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance does not require course completions to be reported.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for New Jersey Insurance Exam Prep courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Certificates are valid for two years from the date of completion. License will not be issued to anyone that comepleted their pre-license education course more than two years ago. The NJ Department of Banking and Insurance also requires that the licensing examination be passed within one year before the license application date.

What is the process to transfer an insurance license to New Jersey?

New residents who move to New Jersey from another state who wish to obtain a New Jersey resident license must meet the following requirements in order to be exempt from pre-license education and examination requirements:

Licensed for same lines of authority in previous home state
The candidate must be licensed in good standing in previous home state or if the application is received within 90 days of cancellation of previous home state license

What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in New Jersey?

Non-resident license candidates may obtain a New Jersey producer license, without having to complete the pre-license education requirement as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state and hold an equivalent license for the same line of authority.

Are there any New Jersey insurance product specific training requirements?

Before selling, soliciting or negotiating the following products, insurance license holders are required to complete the training outlined below. These training hours can be used toward the total CE hours required to renew the license.

Annuity Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products.

Initial Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Additional Information

Long-Term Care Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care partnership products

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products.

Ongoing Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 24-month period, following the initial training requirement.
