What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for Alabama?
Alabama does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, it is recommended to complete an exam prep course before attempting to take your state’s licensing exam.
How to get an insurance license in Alabama
Meet the general eligibility criteria
Be at least 18 years of age.
Must be a US citizen or have a current work authorization.
Reside or maintain a principal place of residence in Alabama.

Register and pass state licensing exam
Make an exam reservation through the University of Alabama.
Before making an exam reservation, applicants should thoroughly review the State of Alabama Licensing Candidate Handbook. The Candidate Handbook and additional licensing information can be accessed by clicking on the Student Handbook button above.
Bring a current form of identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card).
After successfully completing the required examination, applicants must complete an online application and pay a fee.
Print License
After 5 days from submitting the application, check the Alabama Department of Insurance website, and go to the License Search under Producers/Agents to confirm issuance of your license. Once a license is issued, you may print your license from the home page.

WebCE suggests students pass the closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Practice exam with a score of 70% or higher and then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.
What is the access period for WebCE Alabama Insurance Exam Prep courses?
90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.
How often does WebCE report Alabama Insurance Exam Prep course completions?
WebCE does not report exam prep course completions as the Alabama Department of Insurance does not require course completions to be reported.
Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Alabama Insurance Exam Prep courses?
Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after passing the WebCE course exam. Certificates are for personal records and is not required for the state exam.
What is the process to transfer an insurance license to Alabama?
New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will not be required to take the license examination as long as:
Provide a letter of clearance from previous home state for same line of authority
The license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state
What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in Alabama?
Non-resident license candidates may obtain an Alabama producer license, without having to take a license examination, as long as they currently hold an active license in their resident state for the same lines of authority for which they are applying.
Apply through SBS Online Process: for non-resident applicants who hold rental vehicle, legal services, dental services, credit, personal lines, and motor club lines of authority and do not hold any type of license in your home state.

Are there any Alabama insurance product specific training requirements?
Before selling, soliciting or negotiating the following products, insurance license holders are required to complete the training outlined below. These training hours can be used toward the total CE hours required to renew the license.

Annuity Best Interest Training Hours: 4 CE hours Frequency: One-time training of a 4-Hour Annuity Suitability and Best Interest Standards course must be complete prior to selling annuity products.
Residents and non-residents who have completed training including the NAIC Best Interest Standards in another state with laws similar to Alabama law will be deemed compliant with this requirement.
State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care products.
Initial Training Hours: 8 Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products.
Ongoing Training Hours: 4 Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 24-month period following the completion of the initial training and every 24-moths thereafter.
