Arizona Insurance Renewal

License Term

The license term ends on the last day of the producer's birth month, every 3-4 years based on the date of issuance. License terms are not to exceed 48 months.

License Renewal Process

  • Licensees may renew a license up to 90 days before the license expiration date.
  • View your license online after your license renewal application has been accepted (whether online or on paper) to make sure your license expiration has been extended and to make sure other license information is correct. NOTE: Arizona does not produce paper license certificates; click here for details.

Carryover Rules

Excess hours accumulated during any renewal period may not be carried over to the next reporting period.

Repetition Rules

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 4 year license term.

Self-Study Requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking an open-book final exam. Students have unlimited retakes.

Exam Rules

The final exam is open-book. Students may refer to the course material as often as needed. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Monitor Requirements

Exam Proctor Requirements: Exams are open-book, and must be monitored by a CE provider director or a designee of the provider who is an AZ licensed insurance producer or a person in the business of administering examinations.

Self-Study Final Exam: 70%

Certificates of Completion

Arizona Insurance Product Training Requirements

Annuity Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products.

Effective January 1, 2018: All producers currently licensed to sell, solicit, and negotiate annuity products in Arizona, must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours no later than January 1, 2018. All producers licensed on or after January 1, 2018 must complete this training prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating such products.
*Producers who satisfy the training requirements of another state that are similar to the Arizona law, will be deemed compliant for the Arizona requirement.

Non-Resident Arizona Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Long-Term Care State-Specific Insurance Product Training

Non-residents who satisfy the LTC training requirements of another state that are similar to Arizona's law will be deemed compliant for Arizona's requirement.

Non-resident Insurance CE Requirements

If the home state of a non-resident licensee does not have a continuing education requirement, the non-resident licensee is subject to the same continuing education requirements as a resident licensee.

Exemptions from Arizona Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Insurance CE Exemptions

The following individuals are exempt from CE requirements:
  • Licensees who have been continuously licensed in Arizona as an insurance agent, broker or producer since January 1, 1995 and have not held a non-resident license in any other state at any time since January 1, 1995.
  • Licensees have never been the subject of an order of the director of insurance for a violation of Arizona insurance laws (ARS Title 20) that resulted in your license being suspended, revoked, denied or not renewed; or, that required you to cease and desist from unlawful activity; or, that required you to pay restitution or a civil penalty.
  • Non-residents whose home state has a continuing education requirement, are not required to complete Arizona continuing education.
