Mortuary Transport

Before becoming a registered transporter, an individual must complete the following Board approved coursework:

• OSHA or MOSHA training course
• A course on Blood-borne Pathogens and Infection Control
• A law course on Health Article §5-513 (The Human Dignity Act)

NOTE: WebCE offers all of the courses applicants must take to become a registered transporter.

• A-K Last Names: 4/30 every even year
• L-Z Last Names: 4/30 every odd year

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 2 year license term.

Licensees may carryover up to 3 CE hours.

At least 1 month before a license expires, the Board will send a renewal notice by electronic means or first-class mail to the last known electronic or physical address of the licensee. Funeral professionals are required to report course credit hours earned to Maryland as part of the license renewal process.

• WebCE courses are online approved self-study courses with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
• Passing score: 70%
• If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

WebCE does not report course completions to the Maryland Board of Morticians and Funeral Directors.

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Licensees should keep a copy of each certificate of completion in their records in case of an audit by the Board.

Non-resident licensees practicing in Maryland must meet same 12-hour CE requirement as residents to maintain their license.

• Licensees who have practiced for at least forty (40) years may notify the Maryland Board of Morticians and Funeral Directors to request an exemption from CE.
• First time renewals
• Inactive status (a licensed funeral director or mortician who is not currently practicing embalming or funeral directing)
