Required Minnesota CPA CPE Hours

Required CPE Hours for Minnesota CPAs

120 hours of CPA CPE are required every 3 year rolling period, with a minimum of 20 CPE hours annually

Minnesota CPA CPE Subject Area Requirements

CPA Ethics: 8 hours of ethics CPE are required every 3 year rolling period.
Technical: Minimum of 60 CE hours every 3 year rolling period.
Non-Technical: Maximum of 60 CE hours every 3 year rolling period.

Repetition and Carryover

Carryover Allowance

Excess hours earned in a CPE cycle may not be carried forward to a subsequent CPE cycle.

Repetition Rule

Courses cannot be taken for credit more than once in a 3-year rolling reporting period.

CPE Credit Type Limitations

  • Instruction: Maximum 60 hours
  • Published: Maximum 60 hours
  • Instructor lead: At least 24 hours must be obtained from attending instructor-led programs.
  • Self-study: Maximum 96 hours

Course Presentation

WebCE courses are NASBA QAS self-study online. Minnesota CPAs can only complete a maximum of 96 hours in self-study courses.

Exam Rules

The final exam is open-book. Students may refer to the course material as often as needed. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Reporting and Minnesota CPA CPE Certificates of Completion

CPA CPE Reporting

WebCE does NOT report CPE course completions to the Minnesota Board of Accountancy.
Licensees will report their CPE hours at the time of renewal.
CPA License Renewal

Certificates of Completion

WebCE provides online printable certificates of completion. Certificates of completion will be available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. You should maintain written evidence of completion for a period of 5 years following the completion of each reporting activity.
