12/31 annually

Can Funeral CE courses be repeated?

Credit will not be given for the same course more than once during any 2 consecutive licensing terms.

Are there any Funeral CE credit type limits?

  • Classroom Instruction: Minimum 3 hours
  • Self-Study: Maximum 2 hours
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NC Board of Funeral Service has waived the 2-hour limit for online continuing education instruction. Licensees may complete all 5 hours of their CE requirements via online instruction through December 31, 2022.

Can Funeral CE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

2 CE hours may be carried forward to the next license term.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board is also allowing licensees to acquire an additional 5 hours of CE prior to December 31, 2021 that can be rolled over to calendar year 2022 and applied to the 2023 license renewal period.

What is the North Carolina Funeral license renewal process?

Licensees may submit a renewal form (provided by the state) with the required fee to the state.

What is the access period for WebCE North Carolina Funeral CE courses?

How often does WebCE report North Carolina Funeral CE course completions?

  • WebCE courses are online approved self-study courses with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
  • Note: The North Carolina Board of Funeral Service does not permit agents to access the final exam until the student's time in the course equals the number of approved credit hours. The course must be stopped if the student is inactive for more than 10 minutes.
  • Passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for North Carolina Funeral CE courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Licensees should keep all certificates a minimum of 3 years for state auditing purposes.

What are the North Carolina Funeral CE requirements for non-residents?

Non-resident licensees practicing in North Carolina must complete the CE requirement for North Carolina.

Non-resident licensees who are not practicing in North Carolina are not required to take CE for North Carolina.

Are there any CE exemptions?

  • Inactive License (meaning a licensed funeral director who is not currently practicing embalming or funeral directing)
  • Licensees who have been licensed in North Carolina continuously for 25 years or more.
  • A licensee who is issued an initial license does not have to satisfy the continuing education requirement for that year.
