Formal Learning Activities: Minimum 40 hours

Formal learning would include things like:

Activities where the learning and attendance is verified by the sponsor/vendor.

Examples of informal learning that, with proper documentation, may qualify for CPE would include:

  • Attending meetings

Can CPA CPE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

A maximum of 40 hours of CPE can carry forward to any subsequent renewal period.

What is the Wisconsin CPA license renewal process?

The required renewal date for the Certified Public Accountant credential is December 14th of each odd-numbered year. The department shall give a notice of renewal to each holder of a credential at least 30 days prior to the renewal date of the credential. CPAs can report their CPE course completions with their registration renewal.

  • Passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

How often does WebCE report Wisconsin CPA CPE course completions?

WebCE does not report CPE course completions to the Wisconsin Accounting Examining Board.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Wisconsin CPA CPE courses?

Online PDF Certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. CPAs should maintain written evidence of completion for a period of 5 years following the completion of each reporting activity.

What are the Wisconsin CPA CPE requirements for non-residents?

A non-resident licensee seeking renewal of a license in this state shall be determined to have met the CPE requirements of this state by meeting the CPE requirements for renewal of a license in the state in which the licensee’s principal place of business is located.

If a non-resident licensee’s principal place of business state has no CPE requirements for renewal of a license, the non-resident licensee must comply with all CPE requirements for renewal of a license in this state.

Are there any CPE exemptions?

The board may waive all or a portion of the CPE credits required, if it finds exceptional circumstances such as prolonged illness, disability, or other similar circumstances have prevented a licensee from meeting the requirements.
