Connecticut does not require candidates to complete pre-licensing education for the All Lines Insurance Adjuster or Motor Vehicle Appraiser licenses. However, completing an exam prep course before attempting to take the state’s licensing exam is recommended.

Connecticut does require individuals to complete a pre-licensing course of study for a Public Adjuster license. Candidates are required to complete 40 Hours of Public Adjuster Prelicense Education course before taking the state Exam.

All Lines Adjuster/Motor Vehicle Appraiser

1. Meet the general eligibility criteria
   • Be at least 18 years of age
   • Be a resident of and actually be residing in the State of Connecticut

Public Adjuster

1. Meet the general eligibility criteria
   • Be at least 18 years of age.
   • Must be a US citizen or have a current work authorization.
   • Reside or maintain a principal place of residence in Connecticut.
2. Complete required prelicensing education
   • Prepare for the Connecticut State Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
   • To satisfy the requirements for your course, Connecticut requires a 40-hour approved pre-licensing course
   • To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
   • When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants will be required to present their Certificate of Completion at the licensing exam. After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will be able to download a PDF Certificate of Completion which is valid for one year from the date of completion; you will need to take and pass your state exam within this timeframe.
   • When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants will be required to present your Certificate of Completion at your licensing exam.
3. Register and pass state licensing exam
   • After completing the 40-hour course, you must pass the Connecticut licensing exam administered by Pearson VUE. Make an exam reservation at https://www.pearsonvue.com/us/en/ct/insurance.html or by calling (866) 407-2057.
   • Bring two forms of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, or credit card) and a copy of your prelicensing education Certificate of Completion on exam day. The prelicensing education Certificate of Completion is valid for one year from the date of completion.

4. Apply for a License
   • Once you pass the exam, wait 1–2 business days for the result to upload, then apply online through www.nipr.com. The initial application fee is $300. The Connecticut Insurance Department licensing requirements and statutes for Public Adjusters do not list a surety bond requirement. Because bond requirements can change legislatively, you may also verify directly with the CT Insurance Department licensing division. • WebCE suggests students pass the closed-book, non-monitored Exam Prep Practice exam with a score of 70% or higher and then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

Public Adjuster Requirements:

• Per Connecticut PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the pre-license education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
• Students must pass the closed-book monitored Exam Prep Course Certification exam with a score of 70% or higher.
• Exam Requirements: Self-Study exams are closed-book and must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party. Monitors must not serve for examinations of family members, relatives, or dependents; employers or supervisors; employees or subordinates; partners, joint ventures, co-owners, or business associates; or for anyone in whom the monitor or instructor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination.
• If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
• WebCE suggests utilizing Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

WebCE does not report exam prep course completions as the Connecticut Department of Insurance does not require course completions to be reported.

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Pre-licensing course certificates are valid for one year from date of completion.

Connecticut grants reciprocity if you hold an equivalent Public Adjuster license in another state. (except California, Hawaii or New York).
