Colorado Funeral Continuing Education Requirements

Funeral Continuing Education Provider Number: APFSP #1037

Important Notice: The State of Colorado does not license individual practitioners and therefore the state does not require continuing education for funeral service practitioners. The Colorado Funeral Service Board (CFSB) is a certification program developed and administered by the Colorado Funeral Directors Association for the advancement of professionalism within the funeral service industry in Colorado.

Required Colorado Funeral Continuing Education Hours

CFSB Certification

6 CE hours are required every 1-year license term, including 2-hours of CFDA-approved Colorado laws credit every 2-years.

Colorado Funeral Continuing Education Course Category Restrictions

The Colorado Funeral Service Board will identify and must approve classes that are eligible for the required laws credit to ensure that programs satisfy the required criteria. A list of approved law classes will be posted online.
Colorado Funeral Directors Association accepts all courses approved by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice (APFSP). All of our courses are Academy Approved. At least 4 of these contact hours must result from qualified Professional or Academic activities.
• CATEGORY A: PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES. This category includes activities related directly to the funeral service profession. Attendance at conventions, short workshops or seminars, and service in funeral service organizations count in this category.
• CATEGORY B: ACADEMIC ACTIVITY. This category includes those more intensive learning experiences such as higher education-level instruction. Also, professional effort demonstrated by writing, speaking, and research are credited here, as are APFSP accredited home study and on-line learning programs. A maximum of 4 contact hours per calendar year may be accepted for academic activities.
• CATEGORY C: PUBLIC EDUCATION AND SERVICE. This category acknowledges civic and community activities and leadership. Service in community or religious organizations, including officer status, are included. Short talks to community groups, funeral home tours, and similar activities count in this category. A maximum of 2 hours per calendar year is allowed for qualified Community Service activities.
