I believe that a little too much attention was spent on board commentary regarding changes to accounting standards and community feedback regarding dissent and comments.
I expect the audio was AI-generated. There were numerous mispronunciations of heteronyms.
This was impossible!!! The level of difficulty is insane. I'm looking for appropriate level of difficulty and relevance for CFP CE. This was wildly off the mark. Maybe a CPA might need this, but I found it unnecessarily difficult.
This course is supposed to be for Registered Investment Advisors. It seemed more like training for fraud investigators of businesses. I would like to see the course material address situations that are directly related to IARs and the fraud we would see regularly.
The presentation formate was clear, concise, and professional
There is an error in the summary questions. The answer selections are not correct and need to be fixed.
Questions re: statute numbers are ridiculous. We not only take CE to prove our continued mastery, but also to learn. (continuing education, get it?) Memorizing statute numbers for answers is downright silly.
This is course was very informative and interesting. It allowed me to reassess our internal controls at our church.
One of the more interesting courses have taken
I can't believe how much I enjoyed this course. It is not the type of fraud I will be dealing with being a solo employee in my business, but it was so informative and expanded my view of the world and how fraud acts with in it. I really liked this.
I encountered many of the examples presented in my career.
I liked the first-person narrative, the clear expertise, and the broad coverage. I would like more summation - perhaps tables for each section summarizing and detailing the techniques or examples discussed.
The course was very good at affirming many ways that fraud can be committed and gave many examples. There is some bias against sales people in numerous locations usually expressed as (the top performers are usually doing something wrong, attitude). BS. they are the most skilled and usually have the highest persistency. Finally, why the vague or complex questions? Ask a good question and see if we know the answer; don't try to see if you can cleverly get us to miss a question. That is why myself and I'm sure others don't care about the answers to the questions we missed. We are forced to guess because the question or answers are so vague or poorly written. Oh well, passed anyway but it sucks to miss question which I probably could have answered in context.
I think it might be a helpful refresher to go through more specific examples of assets and liabilities. Maybe more thorough examples of how to compile a statement of financial position given information of a client scenario .
I found this course material more lengthy than necessary. Also it did not teach much, it was mostly examples. The exam questions were tricky even though I answered them correctly. The stated question did not contain enough information on many. One had to assume fraud to pick the right answer. This is not the right way to learn or be tested. Sorry, this is the first course over many years that I felt was poor.
Really enjoyed this course. Material was very interesting to read.
The fraud lesson could have been less wordy and half as long.
One hour of credit?
Question 2 did not appear to have a correct answer. Estimated Current Value. Very frustrating.
Really liked course-very interesting stories!
reinforced ideas on auditing.
I did not need the PDF of the course to teach me what an Asset or Liability was. Seemed like it was written for a first-year accounting student.
The test questions were sub-par compared to other courses. This is continuing ed and should be treated as such. Lots of good information but much more subjective and it could have been presented better. I would not recommend this course to others.
Question 34 on the exam was poorly worded. ("All of the above" did not make sense as an answer.) Otherwise, course was very good.
This particular course was taught by an expert in the field using real life examples which made the subject matter more interesting.
Excellent Course.
Interesting content! Liked the first hand experience. A little outdated in parts because people don't really use cash anymore.
Course had a lot of repetitive material. Could have been a bit more streamlined.
Horribly presented. What I thought was a CFP CE class appeared more like a CPA refresher course. More emphasis on regulator codes in IRS book. Next time, focus on the title: PERSONAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS and less emphasis on citing IRS codes and subchapters.
This was boring. More side by side text to examples would have been more interesting. Otherwise it's a lot of words without meaning.
I love the open book exam
The voice used for audio doesn't know about inflection and mispronounces some words which can be distracting.
Great course on fraud
The first person narration seemed strange. When reviewing the exam, there was no way to know which questions were wrong and which were correct, and the formatting was all messed up.
Loved the mention of text in white font. I wouldn't of thought of that. Examples were great
Probably the best CE course I have taken in my 15 years' certification. The real world examples showing the concepts was very helpful.
I feel like the information was very repetitive and wordy. I could have gleaned the same information with 1/10 of the content.
Visual affects can be added
N/A The course was very informative.
Took longer than 3 1/2 hours to complete
I enjoyed this course because the material was very interesting
This truly wasn't relevant to my profession as a financial planner. I expected it to relate to fraud in our context, practices and clients.
Appreciate the several examples to explain the various accounting treatment situations.
Appreciate being able to download the course materials after as it will be good to reference back to in the future.
Interesting but too long
I liked all the examples and the laid back style of the course writer.
it takes 5 to 6 hours to do a 3.5hour course. a 3.5 hr credit should take 3,5 hours to complete
I am an audio learner & really appreciate the audio provided during this course.-
Excellent Course for finance professionals to study.
I liked the examples given.
A few suggestions for improvement: 1) Watch the length of your sentences. Clear writing is generally characterized by simple, declarative sentences of 15-25 words. In contrast, many of the sentences in the course are 35-50 words, with many commas and qualifying phrases that cloud the meaning. 2) Eliminate the double negatives in sentences. 3) Fix the wording in question 14 of the exam. It appears one or more words is left out, and other words are reversed in sequence.
This was likely my favorite course in the last 10 years. I loved the case studies and author's experiences.
This course is a standout due to the emphasis of creativity and "attitude" over arcane auditing procedures.
Takes a very long time to complete course. The exam questions are very difficult to answer.
The audio really helps the learning
Part of required training but did not seem particularly relevant.
This course was interesting but not at all relevant to what I needed for continuing education for my IAR and CFP. I think it has been miscategorized.
Perhaps some of this was my fault… I wanted a course to show me the correct layout of a personal financial statement. Instead I got inundated with ASC and AICPA rules that I needed to understand I order to pass the exam. Not at all what I was looking for.
each question weight too much for 1 credit hour class, make it easy to fail the test.
This course was not only poorly written but so unrelated to my job that I wondered if it was assigned to me in error.
The personal stories were not necessary.
great course, great learning on this
I did not like the first person style of the material. It seemed wordy and could be made more concise.
We were required to obtain 6.0 hours of CE. the first course I requested was 3.5 hours due to the interesting topic. But there are no 2.5 hour courses to round out. Still, that is a small thing but something to consider.
long/intense/learned a lot
I was excited about the topic but it was not what i expected. I felt it was more of an overview on general fraud instead of being more industry specific.
Very well written content directly from the horse's mouth. This auditor has seen it all and it shows! Real life examples are always the best teachers. Thanks for the great course!
Course with the Read it to me option took far too long. Content was very good, but it can be done more efficiently.
i thought this course was way too long
The sample personal financial statements and notes were very informative in presenting and illustrating the course material.
The AI voice lulls me to sleep. The content is good, but I kept dozing off. Adding some videos or other delivery methods would be helpful, too.
Thanks for all the live examples and would like to see more
I love the fact that the author lists lots of live examples to illustrate his points. Very well written & well thought for his sharing of his past work experiences as well as the court cases.
Very detailed examples made understanding helpful.
It would be very helpful to have an actual person read the content rather than an AI Bot. The bots lack of intonation, appropriate pauses and pronunciation at times makes it very hard to focus on what is being said.
Of the courses taken so far in this cycle, this course was the most challenging and intriguing. I really enjoyed it.
I like your course packages and they are affordable. However, your courses are always very dense and difficult to "digest." What I mean is, all paragraphs are so information-heavy. I was an A student in college and have an above-average IQ; even so, after 1 hour of reading your material, it becomes too much to absorb. As a result, many times it all starts to sound like gibberish and I can't appreciate what I just learned, as I can barely remember 20-10% of it.
I haven't had to deal with this subject a lot in my career, so I really appreciated the in depth coverage.
I copied and pasted all of the footnote for further inquiry. They should be included in the PDF. Really enjoyed the material. Thank you.
I would like to see more practice questions.
This course was way too technical.
This course material was too technical for the objective.
This is probably the best course I have taken on WebCE and I have taken dozens over the year. Very well presented and covered a wide variety of potential issues on fraud.
This course was excellent! I appreciated (1) the engaging writing style, (2) the practical concrete recommendations about procedures to put in place to catch fraud, and (3) most of all the many anecdotes about specific instances of documented fraud (clear and memorable!) So many CE courses look like AI just rearranged info from the Series exams: nothing new, not even particularly coherent. This was a refreshing exception!
I would have wanted a class more relevant to what we do on a daily basis.
I wish you credited the author. This particular course was VERY well-written. I'm a lawyer by background, and fraud detection and prevention is not something I have experience with. I was bracing myself for several hours of boredom but was very pleasantly surprised. I laughed a lot - man, humans!
Questions were hard to understand. Had to read some more than once.
The course was practical and well-written.
Delete or reorganize this course into something meaningful and useful.
I love the voice over option. It is a very good retention tool.
I know compliance courses are typically very dry but this one kept my rapt attention. It was written from the perspective of someone that has been in the business of fraud detection for many years. That direct experience really showed through in the writing and kept my attention. Main issue for me is how long the course was. I have been going through the material in 1-hour blocks once per week, so it took a while for me to complete. The material was great though, and I would recommend it to my colleagues.
Very interesting if I was to go into the Fraud Prevention arena but I am in financial arena and we have more specific training, for example Money laundering. This was interesting as I said and informative. I did learn from it.
I did not see the option to download the course material in PDF even though it stated that PDF was available.
Material was relevant and comprehensive.
well presented
Text didn't seem formatted appropriately; either too big to git on screen or too small to read. Very frustrating.
Practice questions are very useful.
WebCE for me is always highest quality
There was some good story-telling, but it was hard to stay focused later in the course due to length. Some sections were very relevant to my role and others were distractingly far from my role. I would recommend finding ways to break this training out for different types of industry roles. Applicable and practical content will be more impactful and engaging.
Surprisingly useful and informative course - the instructor demonstrated his love and mastery of the subject matter.
This course was excellent. It was written very well.
In my opinion, the discussion in "6.5--False Vendors", in which the author dismisses pressure as a necessary element of fraud, represents a flawed understanding--and mischaracterization--of the fraud triangle.
Excellent course! No improvement needed!
Sounds like a marine wrote the fraud detection course, oo-rah! Fantastic course, and well written.
course has many personal anecdotes, It may be helpful in making it more interactive but I feel like it could be shortened by a great amount of time if the information was presented in a straightforward manner without a bunch of personal references and anecdotes. Some of the anecdotes were helpful, but should probably be defined as examples in list form, that part was helpful. but, reading it in a story format does help.
I liked the many examples of fraud that were presented in the course. This heightened my awareness of what to look out for when experiencing fraud situations.
graphic inserts weren't really graphics or illustrations, they were more text . restatements really.
The new IAR course work did not stand out to me so I did 6 hours of Am College instead and had to do another 6 of IAR. My fault but I wish it was more clear from the regulators to the Education company which courses to choose.
3 hours of CE credit should not mean 6 hours of reading!
Great course for any financial professional, especially those interested in Fraud Risk Management and Accounting principles.
Should include more modern-day examples of how frauds are committed in the current hi-tech environment and electronic processing of transactions.
The overall course was basic in nature. It didn't appear to be built around Investment Advisors and potential fraud they might encounter.
I have taken many courses through WebCE. This one was thorough and educational. It was also nicely constructed as far as being interesting with good flow. However, it was about three times too long. The same points could have been made in much less read time. Remember, this is one of many CE courses required. Just being honest. Thanks
The course content was repetitive, boring and lengthy. The one question I got wrong had a very poorly worded correct answer. It should have been "lack of" or similar (mindset with regard to fraud).
This course was the most informative information that I have received in quite some time. It was also very interesting. It has changed how I look at fraud.
great course
This course was way too technical for my purposes. This was more like what a CPA would need to study. It was good thing the test was very big picture.
Informative course.
The content was unneccessarily wordy and long. To keep it succinct would have been an improvement.
This course was totally inappropriate for a financial advisor. It was not what I expected. It was more appropriate for a business class.
In addition to being helpful, it was actually entertaining. Nice surprise. Maybe this helped me get 100%.
Engaging. Very well written.
It was mostly stories; seemed more appropriate for someone who was actually an accountant; some questions were confusing - ex. which statement would not be true, etc. it was boring b/c it was story after story after story...
Easy of use & Quality of content is excellent. Thank you.
Good course with real life examples
Good Course - a little long but The CE requirements require more material.
This course was comprehensive and engaging, but unfortunately was not very relevant at all to my work as a financial advisor assisting a variety of clients over the phone. I assume that I might have missed seeing the accounting focus in the synopsis as I made my choice, which means it was on me to make a more relevant choice. Thanks for the opportunity to give feedback.
Very interesting content.
Course seems geared towards management, auditors, and accountants more than financial advisors/planners. It really isn't very relevant to normal financial advisor situations
It was a very good course. thank you
Read-it-to-me-audio is distractingly robotic. It contains multiple instances of mispronunciations and pauses that are lacking or inappropriate.
i liked that the content was written from a real-world perspective. the stories made it more interesting & easier to stay engaged in the content.
This course lacked significant relevance to my industry and the author constructed course content far too much around himself/his experience.
Course was definitely too high level and intricate for a 1 hour credit. Very technical.
