Flood Insurance Fundamentals: NFIP Training for Insurance Producers

Overview

Standard residential and commercial property insurance policies that cover buildings and their contents normally exclude coverage for flood losses. Since flood damage was traditionally considered uninsurable due to its widespread and catastrophic nature, Congress passed the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 that established a form of government insurance against flood losses and created the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This course covers topics in FEMA's outline of "minimum training and education requirements," but goes beyond the minimum requirements by including useful information that makes the details more understandable.
