A managing broker in Indiana is the person who manages a real estate agency and is responsible for the actions of affiliated agents within the brokerage. Managing brokers are charged with ensuring that all affiliated brokers are following rules and regulations and handling transactions in accordance with relevant national, state and local laws as well as acting in the best interests of brokerage clients.

This course meets the four hour mandatory Broker Core requirement in supervision and management of real estate agents and the management of real estate brokerage firms. This course offers an overview of what it takes to manage a real estate office from office configurations to agent selection techniques and oversight. The creation of a risk management plan and policies and procedures manual is included as well as an update on the 2022 changes in flood insurance and current cyber security issues.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• demonstrate an understanding of the Indiana Code regarding managing a real estate brokerage company in Indiana
• discuss the various management responsibilities of the managing broker in regard to ensuring licensee compliance with the Indiana Code
• describe the responsibilities of a managing broker to affiliated brokers
• explain the importance of a well written policies and procedures manual
• illustrate how proper document management reduces liability
• recognize the importance of a good risk management plan
• explain applicable federal laws including anti-trust laws, can-spam and fair housing
• identify the obligations and responsibilities associated with an escrow account
• describe the effective and legal use of advertising, blogs, and social media
• summarize the decisions that should be considered in opening your own brokerage
