This course provides an understanding of the relationship between Medicare and employer-provided health insurance plans and how the two work together. It covers Medicare enrollment options and enrollment periods, and the coordination of benefits between Medicare and employer-provided health insurance - group plans, retiree plans, COBRA, and health savings accounts. With millions of individuals over the age of 65 who continue to work, this is a timely and significant aspect of retirement planning.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• identify the basics of the Medicare program
• distinguish among the various Medicare enrollment periods: when and how each is available
• recognize correct applications of primary vs. secondary payer, and the conditions that are applicable to each
• recognize the rule and practicalities related to the intersection between Medicare and continued health coverage provided under COBRA
• identify the rules governing the relationship between Medicare and health savings accounts (HSAs), and the potential pitfalls if the rules regarding their interaction are not followed
