When an insured is legally responsible to pay damages to third parties arising from an auto accident, the liability insuring agreement of the personal auto policy (PAP) provides an overall framework for understanding damages payable for bodily injury or property damage.

This course provides an introduction to the liability section of the personal auto insurance policy, focusing on the standard form (PP 00 01, 2005 edition) developed for this line by Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO). It describes the important elements of liability coverage in plain English using loss scenarios and examples to facilitate understanding. Generic references to how courts have interpreted various policy provisions are also included.
