As part of the U.S. Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) exists to assure safe employment conditions for the working population. Understanding OSHA compliance rules and regulations is critical for funeral professionals.

This course addresses important OSHA standards and regulations governing safe practices for funeral homes, including the OSHA Formaldehyde Standard, the Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, and Personal Protective Equipment. The course also covers appropriate preparation room procedures, the proper treatment of sharps, and corrective actions. 

Upon conclusion of this course, students should be able to:

• understand the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) and OSHA's specific safety requirements for funeral homes
• know the proper treatment of sharps, ventilation systems, the bloodborne pathogen standard, and personal protective equipment (PPE), along with a list of violation categories and the associated penalties and sanctions should a violation occur
• cover the seven main functions of OSHA, the OSHA formaldehyde standard, and the proper preparation room procedures along with corrective actions should an accident occur.
