D.C. Legislative Update


Real estate professionals must ensure that they're up to date on the latest federal and local D.C. laws and regulations, which will help them provide the best possible service to clients. This course begins with a review of key federal laws affecting the industry, including the Fair Housing Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Telecommunications Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. It then examines Washington D.C. laws affecting real estate transactions, rent control in the District, and finally landlord-tenant housing rights.

This course meets the mandatory three-hour D.C. legal update CE requirement.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • discuss key federal legislation affecting the practice of real estate, including the Fair Housing Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Telecommunications Act, U.S. Bankruptcy Code/Internal Revenue Code, and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
  • explain long-standing and recently passed D.C. real estate laws regulating property tax relief, disclosure forms, condominiums, the business judgment rule, and community associations
  • describe D.C.'s rent control program
  • explain landlords' and tenants' rights in D.C.
