Law and Rule Required Course (LARRC) 2022-2023 (OR)

Overview

This course covers required and optional content approved by the Oregon Real Estate Board for the Law and Rule Required Course (LARRC) 2022-2023. Students will learn about recent changes to real estate rules and laws covering advertising, rent increase limits on affordable housing, landlord screening procedures, termination of tenancies due to nonpayment, and fair housing. The course also explores rules governing radon, the role of the Oregon Real Estate Agency, and conducting business using eLicense.

This three-hour course meets the Law and Rule Required Course continuing education requirement for Oregon licensees.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • recognize that brokers are now responsible for understanding and complying with Oregon's advertising rules
  • identify the requirements for advertising on social media and to ensure that advertising is truthful and not deceptive
  • describe the rent increase limits that apply to affordable housing units
  • explain the tenant screening criteria that landlords may lawfully use to select tenants
  • compare the protected classes under the federal Fair Housing Act and in Oregon
  • describe how to submit a fair housing complaint
  • identify how to conduct business using eLicense, including renewing a license, registering an alternative name for advertising purposes, and adding or removing client trust accounts
  • identify why radon is harmful and mitigation methods that can be used to reduce radon exposure
  • explain the purpose and duties of the Oregon Real Estate Agency
