From a sign in the yard to social media and custom websites, licensees can employ a number of different advertising strategies. Unfortunately, this also opens the door to possible inappropriate, unethical, or illegal advertising. Understanding Alaska real estate licensing laws and regulations can help licensees ensure they're engaged in lawful advertising practices, thereby avoiding undesired penalties and fines. This course also describes the requirements of the federal Fair Housing Act and how to create advertisements that comply with fair housing laws.

This course is mandatory for the 2022-2024 cycle and has been approved for the designated continuing education course on advertising and social media.

Upon completion, students will be able to:

• recognize the correct way to advertise brokerage offices and the requirements for using brokerage and licensee business names in advertisements
• explain why it is critically important to ensure that advertising is truthful and that accurate descriptions and photos are used
• summarize the copyright infringement problems that can arise when advertising
• describe the types of advertising that will violate the federal Fair Housing Act
• list best practices for ensuring that advertising complies with the Fair Housing Act

Real estate licensees in Alaska who are renewing their licenses for the 2022-2024 license cycle
