Required Indiana Insurance Continuing Education Hours

Life and Health Producers

24-hours of insurance CE, including 3-hours of ethics are required every 2-year license term.

Property and Casualty Producers

24-hours of insurance CE are required every 2 year license term.
* There is not an Ethics requirement for Property and Casualty Producers.

Adjusters

24-hours of insurance CE are required every 2-year license term.
* There is not an Ethics requirement for Adjusters.

Limited Lines Producers

Licenses issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2012 will no longer be required to complete CE.

Indiana Insurance Renewal

License Term

The license term is the last day of the producer's/adjuster's birth month every 2 years.

License Renewal Process

Resident Producer Renewals: Renewal notices will be sent electronically to the email address on file through Sircon. The electronic notice will be sent approximately 60 days prior to the renewal date. To avoid late fees, license renewals must be completed electronically before the license expiration date.
Non-Resident Producer Renewals: To avoid late fees, license renewals must be completed electronically before the license expiration date. To complete the online renewal process go to click here and click on "Create An Account". You may also print your license from ProducerEDGE.

Annuity Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products.

Initial Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Additional Information

Long-Term Care Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care products.

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products. The 8 hours may be counted as part of the required CE credits for the compliance period in which they were completed.

Ongoing Training
Hours: 5
Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 2-year license period, following the initial training requirement.

Long-Term Care Partnership Initial Training Requirement
Hours: 7
Frequency: One-time training must be completed prior to selling LTC insurance products. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

Self-Study Requirements: Students must read through every chapter of the course material for each course before attempting the final exam.

Indiana Insurance Continuing Education Exam Requirements

Exam Rules

The final exam is closed book, and no outside information may be used to complete the exam. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Monitor Requirements

Exam Proctor Requirements: Closed-book exams must be monitored by a licensed producer.

Passing Score

Self-Study Final Exam: 70%

Reporting and Indiana Insurance Continuing Education Certificates of Completion

Certificates of Completion

WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Indiana. Certificate of completion will be available to print online immediately after a final exam is passed. Producers must retain copies of each certificate of completion in their files for at least 4 years.

Repetition and Carryover

Carryover Rules

Excess hours accumulated during any renewal period may not be carried over to the next renewal.

Repetition Rules

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 2 year license term. This includes Indiana-specific LTC courses.

Non-Resident Indiana Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Annuity State-Specific Insurance Product Training

Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Indiana, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours. *Non-residents who satisfy the annuity training requirements in another state with substantially similar annuity requirements will be deemed compliant.

Long-Term Care State-Specific Insurance Product Training

Long-Term Care Partnership program requirement: Producers who will sell LTC policies under the Indiana Long-Term Care Partnership (ILTCP) program must satisfy a one-time 7-hour training requirement in addition to the initial 8-hour LTC training requirement, for a total of 15 hours. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

Non-resident Insurance CE Requirements

Non-resident adjusters who satisfy the adjuster requirement in their resident state will be deemed compliant for the Indiana adjuster requirement. If their resident state, or designated home state, does not have an adjuster requirement, then they must complete 24 hours of approved Indiana CE.

Exemptions from Indiana Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Insurance CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Indiana CE requirements:
  • Non-resident producers are exempt if home state CE requirements are met and a PDB printout indicating resident compliance is submitted to IDOI.
  • Non-resident producers are exempt from the regular long-term care requirement (but not from the Indiana Partnership Long-Term Care Program requirement).
  • A limited lines insurance producer
