Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The prelicensing course must consist of 20 hours per line of authority on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:

• Life – 20 hours
• Health and Accident – 20 hour
• Life, Health, and Accident – 40 hours
• Property – 20 hours
• Casualty – 20 hours
• Property and Casualty – 40 hours
• Personal Lines – 20 hours

1. Meet the general eligibility criteria
   • Be at least 18 years of age.
   • Must be a US citizen or have a current work authorization.
   • Reside or maintain a principal place of residence in Alabama.


2. Complete required prelicensing education
   • To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a non-monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
   • After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will receive an email with your Certificate of Completion which is valid for one year from the date of completion; you will need to take and pass your state exam within this timeframe.


3. Register and pass state licensing exam
   • Make an exam reservation through the University of Alabama.
     Before making an exam reservation applicants should thoroughly review the State of Alabama Licensing Candidate Handbook. The Candidate Handbook and additional licensing information can be accessed by clicking on the Student Handbook button above.
   • Bring a current form of identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card) and a copy of your prelicensing education Certificate of Completion on exam day. The prelicensing education Certificate of Completion is valid for one year from the date of completion.


4. Submit fingerprints
   • Alabama will process fingerprints through a new vendor “Field Print”. Applicants will be able to register through Field Print beginning March 13, 2023. Monday, March 6, 2023, will be the last day you can register for fingerprinting through Thales/Gemalto. Those who have registered before and through March 6, will need to have completed their fingerprints at a Gemalto/Thales location by March 09, 2023. ALDOI will be processing fingerprints through a new vendor “Field Print”. Applicants will be able to register through Field Print beginning March 13, 2023. 5. Apply for a License
   • After successfully completing the required examination, applicants must complete an online application and pay a fee.


6. Print License
   • After 5 days from submitting application, check the Alabama Department of Insurance website, and go to the License Search under Producers/Agents to confirm issuance of your license. Once a license is issued, you may print your license from the home page.

• Per Alabama PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the pre-license education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
• Students must pass the closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Course Certification exam with a score of 70% or higher. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
• WebCE suggest to then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.

WebCE does not report exam prep course completions as the Alabama Department of Insurance does not require course completions to be reported.

PDF Certificates of completion will be emailed by WebCE, upon completion of the pre-license course. Pre-licensing course certificates are valid for one year from date of completion.

New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will not be required to complete Prelicensing education or take the license examination as long as:

• Provide a letter of clearance from previous home state for same line of authority
• The license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state

Non-resident license candidates may obtain an Alabama producer license, without having to complete the prelicense education requirement or take a license examination, as long as they are currently hold an active license in their resident state for the same lines of authority for which they are applying.

• Apply through NIPR Online Process: for non-resident applicants who hold any type of resident license in their home state.
• Apply through SBS Online Process: for non-resident applicants who hold rental vehicle, legal services, dental services, credit, personal lines, and motor club lines of authority and do not hold any type of license in your home state.

Non-resident applicants are no longer required to provide certification letters from their home state.
