Effective immediately, the Florida Department of Financial Services no longer requires a Letter of Clearance to process a license transfer from a previous resident state to Florida. Additionally, applicants are not required to relinquish their resident license in their previous state before applying. Instead, applicants will be reminded during the application process to cancel their previous resident license or convert it to a non-resident license within 30 days after obtaining the Florida resident license. This change is expected to result in a more efficient license transfer process to Florida.
To qualify for a license based on the transfer of license option, an applicant must meet all of the following requirements:
- Become a resident of Florida.
- Has held a valid resident license with the equivalent line of authority for one (1) continuous year prior to applying for a license in Florida.
- Submit the application for the license and pay the appropriate fees within 90 days of becoming a resident of Florida.
