What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for Mississippi?

Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The prelicensing course must consist of 20 hours per line of authority on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:

Life – 20 hours
Health and Accident – 20 hour
Life, Health, and Accident – 40 hours
Property – 20 hours
Casualty – 20 hours
Property and Casualty – 40 hours
Personal Lines – 20 hours

How to get an insurance license in Mississippi

Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Reside or maintain a principal place of residence in Mississippi.

Complete required prelicensing education
- Prepare for the Mississippi State Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
- To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
- After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will be able to download a PDF Certificate of Completion which is valid for two years from the date of completion; you will need to take and pass your state exam within this timeframe.

Register and pass state licensing exam
- Make an exam reservation at www.pearsonvue.com/ms/insurance or by calling (866) 407-2057.
- Bring two forms of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, credit card).

What are the WebCE Mississippi Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

Per Mississippi PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the pre-license education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
Students must pass the closed-book monitored Exam Prep Course Certification exam with a score of 70% or higher.
Exam Requirements: Self-Study exams are closed-book and must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party. The disinterested third party must be minimum age of 18 years old and can be anyone except family members or anyone in whom the monitor instructor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination. Co-worker monitors must not be above or below in the student's line of supervision.
If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

What is the process to transfer an insurance license to Mississippi?

New residents will not be required to complete pre-license education or take the license examination as long as:

A letter of clearance is submitted from previous home state (unless license status can be verified on the National Producer Database)
Must submit an application to the Department within 90 days of clearing their resident license from the previous home state.

What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in Mississippi?

Nonresident license candidates may obtain a Mississippi producer license, without having to complete the pre-license education requirement or take a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident in their home state and in compliance with continuing education requirements in their home state.

Are there any Mississippi insurance product specific training requirements?

Before selling, soliciting or negotiating the following products, insurance license holders are required to complete the training outlined below. These training hours can be used toward the total CE hours required to renew the license.

Annuity Best Interest Training

One-Time Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training must be complete before selling annuity products..

Effective January 1st, 2022, licensees who sell annuity products will need to complete an annuity course covering the NAIC Best Interest Standards.

Licensees who have already completed a 4-hour annuity course prior to 1/1/2022 may complete a 1-hour annuity best interest course or complete the new 4-hour annuity best interest course. Licensees will only have until 6/30/2022 to be able to take the 1-hour course.
Licensees who have not completed a 4-hour annuity course must take the annuity best interests course prior to selling annuities.
