What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for Pennsylvania?

Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The pre-licensing course must consist of 24 hours per line of authority on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:

Life – 24 hours
Accident and Health – 24 hours
Life, Accident and Health – 24 hours
Property – 24 hours
Casualty – 24 hours
Property and Casualty – 24 hours
Personal Lines – 24 hours

How to get an insurance license in Pennsylvania

Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a resident of or have principal place of business in Pennsylvania

Complete required prelicensing education
- Prepare for the Pennsylvania State Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
- To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
- When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants will be required to present your Certificate of Completion at your licensing exam. After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will be able to download a PDF Certificate of Completion.

Register and pass state licensing exam
- Make an exam reservation at psiexams.com or by calling (800) 733-9267.
- Bring one form of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, credit card) and your WebCE Certificate of Completion.
- PSI is providing remotely proctored testing for the state of Pennsylvania. Student may register to have their licensing exam remotely proctored by visiting the PSI website.

Submit fingerprints
- All first-time individual resident producer and adjuster applicants must be fingerprinted in order to become licensed
- Applicants are required to register online via the IdentoGO website or by telephone at 844-321-2101. Use service code 1KGBGJ when registering.

Apply for a License
- After passing your licensing exam and submitting fingerprints, complete the insurance license application online through Sircon or NIPR.

What are the WebCE Pennsylvania Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

Per Pennsylvania PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the pre-license education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
Students should pass the closed-book final exam with a score of 70% or higher.
If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
WebCE suggest to then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

What is the access period for WebCE Pennsylvania Insurance Exam Prep courses?

90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.

New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will not be required to complete pre-license education or take the license examination as long as

The application is received within 90 days of their former home state license being canceled
The license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state
Obtain a letter of clearance from your prior home state

What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in Pennsylvania?

Nonresident license candidates may obtain a Pennsylvania agent license, without having to complete the pre-license education requirement as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state. In addition, nonresident license candidates are exempt from an examination if the applicant’s home state grants a waiver of examination to Pennsylvania resident license producers.

Are there any Pennsylvania insurance product specific training requirements?

Before selling, soliciting or negotiating the following products, insurance license holders are required to complete the training outlined below. These training hours can be used toward the total CE hours required to renew the license.

Annuity Best Interest Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products.

Initial Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Effective June 20th, 2022, licensees who sell annuity products will need to complete an annuity course covering the NAIC Best Interest Standards.

Licensees who have already completed a 4-hour annuity course prior to 6/20/2022 may complete a 1-hour annuity best interest course or complete the new 4-hour annuity best interest course. Licensees will only have until 12/20/2022 to be able to take the 1-hour course.
Licensees who have not completed an annuity course must take the 4-hour annuity best interests course prior to selling annuities.

Long-Term Care Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care products.

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products.

Ongoing Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 24-month license period, following the initial training requirement.
