What are the CPA CPE requirements for New Mexico?

  • Total CPE Requirement: 120 hours
  • Annual CPE Requirement: 20 hours

Are there any subject area requirements for New Mexico CPA CPE?

CPA Ethics: 4 hours of ethics CPE

  • When does New Mexico CPA CPE have to be completed?

    First day of month following birth month to the last day of birth month, over a 3-year rolling period

    Can CPA CPE courses be repeated?

    Courses cannot be taken for credit more than once in a 3-year rolling license term.

    Are there any CPA CPE credit type limits?

    • Nano-Learning: Maximum of 8 hours earned through nano-learning credits
    • Instruction: Maximum 60 hours combined with authorship
    • Published Materials: Maximum 60 hours combined with instruction
    • Meetings: Maximum 4 hours for board meeting attendance
    • CPE Sponsored by Organizations: Minimum of 24 hours must be from organization other than a licensee's firm or employer

    Can CPA CPE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

    Excess hours earned in a CPE cycle may not be carried forward to a subsequent CPE cycle.

    What is the New Mexico CPA license renewal process?

    A license expires on the last day of the license holder’s birth month each year. The Board shall mail a renewal notice to the license holder at the last known address of record six weeks prior to the expiration date of the license. CPAs can report their CPE course completions with their registration renewal.

    What are the WebCE New Mexico CPA CPE course requirements?

    • WebCE courses are NASBA QAS self-study with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
    • Passing score: 70%
    • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

    What is the access period for WebCE New Mexico CPA CPE courses?

    12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard. Due to regulatory guidelines, access to courses CANNOT BE EXTENDED past 12 months from the original date of purchase.

    How often does WebCE report New Mexico CPA CPE course completions?

    WebCE does not report CPE course completions to the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board.

    Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for New Mexico CPA CPE courses?

    Online PDF Certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. CPAs should maintain written evidence of completion for a period of 5 years following the completion of each reporting activity.

    Are there any CPE exemptions?

    The board may allow extensions or make exceptions to CPE requirements for reason of individual hardship including:
    • Health
    • Military Service
    • Foreign Country Residence
    • Other good cause
    Requests for such exceptions shall be subject to board approval and presented in writing to the board. Requests shall include such supporting information and documentation as the board deems necessary to substantiate and evaluate the basis of the exception request.
