Insurance License Renewal

License Term

  • Producers:  Every 2 years, based on the licensee’s date of birth in odd- or even-numbered years. Licensees born in an even-numbered year are required to complete their CE in even-numbered years. Licensees born in an odd-numbered year are required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years.               
  • Public Adjusters:  The license term ends on 12/31 of even-numbered years.

Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling flood insurance products.

Insurance CE Exam Requirements

Exam Rules

The final exam is closed book, and no outside information may be used to complete the exam.             

Monitor Requirements

Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a state-approved monitor. A list of CE monitors approved by New York can be found here.

Monitor Information: Upon renewal of the monitor approval every 2 years (November 30th of every odd year), renewing monitors will not need to send monitor approval documents to WebCE. WebCE receives the renewed information directly from the state. For monitors that are newly approved during the approval term, the monitor approval information will need to be faxed into WebCE before the student can take the final exam. Monitors not of file with WebCE will not be allowed to proctor a WebCE exam.

Excess CE hours are not allowed to be carried forward to the next 2-year license term.

Insurance CE Exemptions

  • Non-resident producers in good standing with their home state. 
  • Licensees called to active military duty during the term of their license. 
  • There is no CE requirement for the renewal of Independent Adjuster, Bail Bond, Mortgage Guarantee, or Re-insurance Intermediary licenses.
