What are the New York Real Estate CE requirements for non-residents?

Non-residents are required to complete NY approved continuing education. In the individual’s initial license term, at least 11 hours of the required 22.5 hours of continuing education shall be completed during the first year of the term. Of those 11 hours, 3 hours must pertain to applicable New York state statutes and regulations governing the practice of real estate brokers and salespersons.

However, a person who qualifies through reciprocity may continue to complete continuing education in the original state of licensure as long as they maintain the conditions of the reciprocal agreement. The reciprocal agreement requires that the applicant have a business and residence address in the original state. Once the licensee indicates a New York business or residence address in NY, the licensee no longer meet the conditions for reciprocity and must complete NY approved continuing education. Please visit New York's website for a list of reciprocal states they have entered a reciprocal agreement with.

  • Any attorney admitted to the New York State Bar who holds a real estate broker's license.

Effective July 1, 2021, all licensees are required to complete the new CE requirements, regardless of how long they’ve been licensed. The only group that is still exempt from the CE requirements are New York licensed attorneys who are also licensed as brokers.
