What are the CPA CPE requirements for Texas?

  • Total CPE Requirement: 120 hours over a rolling 3 year period.
  • Annual CPE Requirement: 20 hours

Are there any subject area requirements for Texas CPA CPE?

  • CPA Ethics: 4 hours of Texas board approved ethics CPE every 2 years
  • Technical Subjects: Minimum 60 hours over the 3 year rolling period

When does Texas CPA CPE have to be completed?

CPE should be completed and reported on or before the last day of the CPA's birth month, over a three year rolling period

Can CPA CPE courses be repeated?

It is not recommended that courses be taken for credit more than once in a 3-year rolling license term.

Are there any CPA CPE credit type limits?

  • Non-Technical: Maximum 60 hours in 3 year reporting period
  • Nano Learning: Maximum 60 hours in 3 year reporting period
  • Instruction: Maximum 20 hours
  • Published Materials: Maximum 10 hours
  • Certified Financial Planner Certification Program: Maximum 60 hours in 3 year reporting period
  • Certified Internal Auditor Certification Program: Maximum 60 hours in 3 year reporting period
  • Certified Fraud Examiner Certification Program: Maximum 60 hours in 3 year reporting period
  • Other related Financial Certifications, and/or Related Financial Securities Licenses: Maximum 60 hours in 3 year reporting period

Can CPA CPE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

Excess hours earned in a CPE cycle may not be carried forward to a subsequent CPE cycle.

What is the Texas CPA license renewal process?

Annual renewal notices are sent out 45 days prior to the current license expiration date. CPAs can report their CPE course completions with their registration renewal.

What are the WebCE Texas CPA CPE course requirements?

  • WebCE courses are NASBA QAS self-study with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
  • Passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

What is the access period for WebCE Texas CPA CPE courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase.

How often does WebCE report Texas CPA CPE course completions?

WebCE does not report CPE course completions to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Texas CPA CPE courses?

Online PDF Certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. CPAs should maintain written evidence of completion for a period of 5 years following the completion of each reporting activity.

What are the Texas CPA CPE requirements for non-residents?

A non-resident licensee may meet Texas' CPE requirements by meeting the CPE requirements of the licensee's principal place of business. If the principal place of business has no CPE requirements, then the licensee must meet Texas' CPE requirements.

Are there any CPE exemptions?

The Board may exempt a licensee from continuing education requirements during the period for which the exemption is requested on a case by case basis for:

  • Unemployment, or no association with accounting, or providing services to Texas clients
  • Health reasons certified by a medical doctor
  • Active Military Service
  • Retirement or Disability Status.

In order to receive and exemption from CPE, a qualifying individual must submit a written affidavit request for an exemption to the Board.
