What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for Indiana?

Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The prelicensing course must consist of 20 hours per line of authority on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:
  • Life – 20 hours
  • Health and Accident – 20 hour
  • Life, Health, and Accident – 40 hours
  • Property – 20 hours
  • Casualty – 20 hours
  • Property and Casualty – 40 hours
  • Personal Lines - 20 hours

How to get an insurance license in Indiana

  1. Meet the general eligibility criteria
    • Be at least 18 years of age.
    • Maintain a principal place of residence or a principal place of business in Indiana
    • Not have committed any act that is a ground for denial, suspension or revocation of a license

  2. Complete required prelicensing education
    • Prepare for the Indiana State Licensing Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
    • When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants will be required to present your Certificate of Completion at your licensing exam. After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will be able to download a PDF Certificate of Completion which is valid for six (6) months from the date of completion; you will need to take and pass your state exam within this timeframe.

  3. Register and pass state licensing exam
    • Make an exam reservation at https://www.pearsonvue.com/in/insurance or calling (866) 895-0496. Candidates should make a reservation online at least twenty-four (24) hours before the desired examination date.
    • Bring one form of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, credit card) and a copy of your prelicensing education Certificate of Completion on exam day. The prelicensing education Certificate of Completion is valid for six months from the date of completion.
    Before making an exam reservation applicants should thoroughly review the State of Indiana Licensing Candidate Handbook. The Candidate Handbook and additional licensing information can be accessed by clicking on the Student Handbook button above.

  4. Apply for a License

What are the WebCE Indiana Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

  • Per Indiana PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons and answer each set of end-of-chapter quizzes with a score of at least 70 percent prior to taking an open-book final exam.
    Please Note: Pre-license education providers are required to record the actual time the applicant spends in the course and not allow access to the certificate of completion until the applicant's time equals the number of required hours for the LOA.
  • Students should pass the closed-book final exam with a score of 70% or higher.
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
  • WebCE suggest to then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

  • Application is made within 90 days of establishing residence in Indiana
  • Currently licensed in another state or canceled the previous license within 90 days prior to submitting the application
  • The license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state
