What are the CPA CPE requirements for South Dakota?
Total CPE Requirement: 120 hours over the prior 3 years
Annual CPE Requirement: 20 hours
When does South Dakota CPA CPE have to be completed?
7/1 to 6/30 over a rolling three year period; at least 20 hours must be reported at each annual renewal.
Can CPA CPE courses be repeated?
Courses cannot be taken for credit more than once in a 3-year rolling license term.
Are there any CPA CPE credit type limits?
- Behavioral or Motivational Courses: Maximum 24 hours
- College/University Instruction Credits: Maximum 60 hours
- Published Materials: Maximum 60 hours
Can CPA CPE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?
Excess hours earned in a CPE cycle may not be carried forward to a subsequent CPE cycle.
What is the South Dakota CPA license renewal process?
Online renewals open around mid-late June and run through August 1st. Renewals must be received by the board by August 1 or must be postmarked by August 1. An application completed on the internet must be submitted on or before 11:59 p.m. central time on August 1, to be considered on time. Any licensee who submitted a renewal by the use of the internet agrees that submission of the renewal serves as the licensee’s signature and verification of the information in the renewal.

What are the WebCE South Dakota CPA CPE course requirements?
- WebCE courses are NASBA QAS self-study with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
- Passing score: 70%
- If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
What is the access period for WebCE South Dakota CPA CPE courses?
12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard. Due to regulatory guidelines, access to courses CANNOT BE EXTENDED past 12 months from the original date of purchase.
How often does WebCE report South Dakota CPA CPE course completions?
WebCE does not report CPE course completions to the South Dakota Board of Accountancy.
Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for South Dakota CPA CPE courses?
Online PDF Certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. CPAs should maintain written evidence of completion for a period of 4 years following the completion of each reporting activity.
What are the South Dakota CPA CPE requirements for non-residents?
The continuing professional education requirement of a nonresident individual certificate holder is considered met if the individual meets the continuing professional education requirement for renewal of a certificate or license in the state in which the individual's principal place of business is located.
Are there any CPE exemptions?
Exemptions may be granted for CPAs in inactive status.
An active CPA may request a CPE Extension. Upon request by an applicant the board may grant a 90 day extension to complete the minimum continuing professional education requirement. The board shall review subsequent requests for extensions and may grant them on a case by case basis for good cause. Good cause includes:
- personal emergencies,
- acts of God, or
- administrative errors made by the board.
The extension must be approved by staff and on your record before you will be able to continue on in the online renewal process.
