Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 1 year license term.

Excess CE credit hours earned in one license term may not be carried forward to the next license term.

What is the Rhode Island Funeral license renewal process?

  • Prior to the expiration of a license, the Board will mail a renewal application and notice of renewal fee to licensees. Applications and renewal fee must be received on or before the 31st day of December. After the 15th day of January the license is considered lapsed.
  • Licensees are NOT required to send in evidence of continuing education hours at the time of renewal. The Board will randomly select licensees for a post renewal audit.

  • WebCE courses are online approved self-study courses with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through the course material then complete the exam.
  • Passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

How often does WebCE report Rhode Island Funeral CE course completions?

WebCE does not report course completions to the Rhode Island Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Rhode Island Continuing Education courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Licensees should keep all certificates a minimum of 2 years for state auditing purposes.

What are the Rhode Island Funeral CE requirements for non-residents?

Anyone who holds an active funeral director/embalmer license in Rhode Island must meet Rhode Island’s CE requirements.

Are there any CE exemptions?

  • New licensees licensed after the December 31st renewal date are exempt from CE requirements until the next renewal cycle (January 1st of next year).
  • Funeral directors/embalmers who were sixty-five (65) years of age or older and had forty (40) years of experience are exempt from these continuing education requirements.
